ICT/Computer Science

The Computer Science department prides itself on being a forward thinking department where students are introduced to the latest hardware and software at the earliest possible opportunity. We have three fully-equipped ICT suites which are used for the teaching of Computer Science and these are also used by other departments for accessing ICT across the curriculum.

The state of the art ICT suites all have 30 student computers, interactive whiteboards for multimedia presentations and colour printers.

Students in KS3 follow an ICT/Computer Science scheme of work allowing students to develop an understanding in the design and implementation of computer systems as well as understanding the principles underlying these designs.

Students at KS4 have the opportunity to follow GCSE Computer Science. The qualification enables students to develop an understanding of current and emerging technologies and how they work, and how to apply this knowledge and understanding in a range of contexts. Students will acquire and apply knowledge, gain technical skills and develop an understanding of the use of algorithms in computer programs to solve problems when programming. Students will use their knowledge and understanding of computer technology to become independent and discerning users of IT, so that informed decisions can be made about the use and implications of different technologies. Students will also acquire technical skills and apply knowledge and understanding of the use of computing and how to develop computer programs to solve problems.
